Personality, Character & Identity

SOCT Paper 7
Science of Christian Thought
Gives insight regarding;
Personality, Character & Identity

As SOCT students we understand that there is a difference between the personality, character & identity of an individual. First off, personality is something that you are born with. It is the “true you”. We are each born with unique qualities; no two people are exactly alike. In SOCT we could also break personalities down in to “personality types” but we will not do this here. Here we will discuss the three things that make you “you” which are personality, character & identity. ~

So if you are a person born with your own personality then what is your character? Character is something that is developed. Some people have developed a healthy character and some not so great. Character is something that is worked on. Now we come to “identity”. For character to properly be developed it must have some kind of moral compass. This compass is what evolves your identity, who you think you are, or who you truly are. ~

As a true Christian we begin to put our identity in that of Jesus Christ, the Supreme Personality. We must understand that we are never “robots”…we still maintain our own personality and character traits but our morality, that which guides our identity, we place in Jesus Christ.

The Personality

Christians have personality…not “ego”. ~

Crisscrossing of old fallen mind channels with the new Holy Spirit channel [revelation] can cause bad habits to temporarily reappear which can cause the inner struggle of “spiritual warfare”. Remember, all so called “mind channels” contain “thought patterns”. Thought patterns ultimately fall only under three categories [TIA]. ~

What all humans are looking for consciously or unconsciously is perfect identity. Without Christian Perception there is identity crisis because there are many possible alternatives without Jesus Christ [Ultimate Reality], and we each much decide “who we are”. When “The Science of Christian Thought” uses the term ego we mean the feeling of “self” in and by itself. Self consciousness could be the simplest explanation of the “ego”. But we are more than just self-conscious; we each have our own PERSON [personality]. We have our own likes and dislikes. We also have different approaches on how we learn things. ~

Individual personality is a gift from God. We are each created with our own special qualities. The “Christian self” is the God given personality. This can be shaped and trained to think properly while holding to individuality. God did not create us to be mere robots. One who has not accepted the fact of true personality is really only acting from ‘ego’, a sense of self without true direction. Egocentric minds develop their own rules and laws to live by based on fallen human nature. This brings with it distortions of personality and behavioral problems because of disobedience to God’s Way. ~

Even at the resurrection there is one part of you that remains absolutely unaltered, and that is personality. The personality holds to permanence in the presence of change. True personality is bestowed by God upon each human individual as a potentially eternal endowment. Those who have been truly converted have Holy Spirit to guide the development of personality and to become truly “born again” children of God. True personality signifies the unification of all factors of reality, brings one to Christian Perception and to Christian Reality. Born Again Personality will survive to live in the Kingdom of God. Without Holy Spirit personality is mortal. ~

How the SOCT dictionary defines such terms:

Personality: The personality is unique and by itself does not have a copy. It is truly “you”. It consists of social qualities, mannerisms, habits, talking qualities, body language, etc. There is truly only “one” you. Each person is BORN WITH their own special personality, your “person”. ~

Character: SOCT separates character from personality. These are integrated no doubt but personality is what you are born with. 50% of you is preprogrammed by God Himself. Character development is learning how to develop Christ attributes which enhance your personality. Character development involves an aggregate of character traits being acted out from an individual level for the good or bad. ~

Identity: Identity is that which each personality seeks through a display of character traits. Some of these traits are innate, gifted to the personality by God. Each identity has its own particular predispositions. Other traits are developed. The true identity of the individual is buried in sinful distortion. Identity needs purpose. Identity achieves its goal when it connects to Jesus Christ and manifests MOCA “mocha”. True identity is to be found “in Jesus Christ”. ~

How we guide our thinking involves TIA. As true Christians we try and make all of our choices and decisions guided by “mocha” [Mind of Christ Action] but really we are falling in and out of what we call the “three interactive actions” or TIA. This teaching is understood as such in the SOCT dictionary:

Three Interactive Actions [Options] [TIA]: Let us look at the process known as TIA. This is something that is first practiced consciously and after time it becomes a natural ACTION as the character begins to become more CHRIST LIKE in its behavior.-

Because of sin fallen mans basic thought patterns can be structured as being a part of three separate yet interactive “actions” as such:-

Sinful Reaction: All humans have a basic reaction to all that affects them. Because of the sinful nature mans comprehension of ultimate reality is distorted. Even with fallen mans concept of basic “right” and “wrong” he has distortions. He reacts wrongly. [
Proverbs 18:13 Romans 8:7] Sometimes sinful reaction is even more personified because of physical distortions. All physical distortions are a result of sin; both directly and indirectly [inherent].-

Positive Reaction: Positive reaction could be seen as fallen man trying to do his best with what he has. Not all ‘positive’ reactions are truly correct because they contain some sort of distortion. [
Proverbs 16:25 Proverbs 16:2] Man can do “good” but this does not make man perfect or without sin. Both Sinful & Positive reactions can be effected or enhanced through culture, environment and or upbringing. What are called “good works” [positive reaction] of man cannot get you into the Kingdom of God. [Ephesians 2:8-10]-

Mind Of Christ Action [MOCA] pronounced “mocha”: This is the point where man begins to truly think and act clearly. Only the true Christian can begin this process. It involves the development of the mind under the influence of Holy Spirit. [
Romans 12:2 1 Corinthians 2:14] To have the Mind of Christ means that the individual has gone through true conversion. To receive the mind of Christ one must come into contact with Jesus Christ and His True Church. This is rare.-

Science OChristian Thought - Beliefs and Views
By Sir Eric William King

Science Of Christian Thought teaches freedom of religion. We teach sciencemoralityspiritualityreligious unity and hold to the core of our faith which is Christian. We use the Christian Bible in our teachings along with numerous other biblical books which are not included in the current biblical cannon. We worship God as we individually understand God [Divine Intelligence]. We study other faiths and learn from all religions and cultures. ~

~ We believe in extraterrestrial life and that there are numerous races of beings both biological and spiritual[interdimensional beings]. We believe that there is what  humans would call both good and bad beings from (on) every level. ~

~ We believe in static scientific laws which are specific to their time and dimension. We believe that humans are experiencing the third dimension and we also believe that humans have the capability to perceive and experience what one might call “higher dimensions”. ~

~ We believe in natural selection and in evolution. We believe that our evolution was Divinely Guided by higher beings and ultimately by Divine Intelligence [God]. We believe that our entire planet is still being guided and helped by higher beings. ~

~ We believe that there have been many struggles on this planet of ours and that there have been celestial wars [heavenly wars] between higher beings during our early development.  We believe that there are still struggles going on between entities which have been in our universe since its beginning. ~

~ We believe in Divine Law which includes all scientific laws and moral laws between all entities on every level. We believe that science and religion [spiritual concepts, beliefs and understandings] are eternally wedded and that both are needed to further progress on every level. ~

~ We believe that our planet is going through a “great change” on every level and that we (Science Of Christian Thought – SOCT) are here now in this time/space continuum to help deliver better understandings as all life on this planet goes through this last great transition. ~

~All are welcome to freely study our beliefs. There are no fines, fees or forms. May you find and keep Peace Profound. ~

  1. Negative thought patterns are repetitive, unproductive thoughts. They serve no real purpose and directly cause negative emotions (emotions are a reflection of our thoughts, felt in the body).
Once we learn to recognise and identify these thought patterns as they occur we can start to have a choice about how to react.

  2. Negative thinking can take the form of imagining or expecting that bad things will happen or that nothing good will ever happen for you. You might fret about your health deteriorating, your relationship going downhill, your car breaking down or your career being ruined— even though nothing has actually happened yet.
You might focus on the lack in your life and believe that nothing will ever get better for you. Stress related to your financial future, the welfare of your children or your partner leaving you fit into this category.
When the mind casts itself into the future and conjures up scenes and thoughts about what could go wrong or creates ‘what if’ scenarios you have become trapped in these kinds of negative thought patterns.

Here are the 10 distorted thinking patterns according to Dr. Burns. Burns writes:

1.All-Or-Nothing Thinking – You see things in black-and-white categories. If your performance falls short of perfect, you see yourself as a total failure.

2.Overgeneralization – You see a single negative event as a never-ending pattern of defeat.

3.Mental Filter – You pick out a single negative defeat and dwell on it exclusively so that your vision of reality becomes darkened, like the drop of ink that colors the entire beaker of water.

4.Disqualifying the positive – You dismiss positive experiences by insisting they "don’t count" for some reason or other. In this way you can maintain a negative belief that is contradicted by your everyday experiences.

5.Jumping to conclusions – You make a negative interpretation even though there are no definite facts that convincingly support your conclusion.

    A. Mind reading. You arbitrarily conclude that someone is reacting negatively to you, and you don’t bother to check this out.

    B. The fortune teller error. You anticipate that things will turn out badly, and you feel convinced that your prediction is an already-established fact.

6.Magnification (Catastrophizing) or Minimization– You exaggerate the importance of things (such as your goof-up or someone else’s achievement), or you inappropriately shrink things until they appear tiny (your own desirable qualities or the other fellow’s imperfections). This is also called the "binocular trick."

7.Emotional Reasoning – You assume that your negative emotions necessarily reflect the way things really are: "I feel it, therefore it must be true.

8.Should Statements – You try to motivate yourself with shoulds and shouldn’ts, as if you had to be whipped and punished before you could be expected to do anything. "Musts" and "oughts" are also offenders. The emotional consequence is guilt. When you direct should statements toward others, you feel anger, frustration, and resentment.

9.Labeling and Mislabeling – This is an extreme form of overgeneralization. Instead of describing your error, you attach a negative label to yourself: "I’m a loser." When someone else’s behavior rubs you the wrong way, you attach a negative label to him: "He’s a goddam louse." Mislabeling involves describing an event with language that is highly colored and emotionally loaded.

10.Personalization – You see yourself as the cause of some negative external event which in fact you were not primarily responsible for.

Reality Shift: Phrase used to describe what a person experiences while going through the true conversion process. The Christian Identity Realization process.-

At this level the person no longer sees a completely “black & white” reality but instead the reality of a higher harmony is experienced. They have truly crossed the liminal-line of consciousness after having received the Holy Spirit. The liminal-line of consciousness is actually a circuit barrier. The human brain has the wiring necessary to break through this circuit barrier. However, the human brain must be exercised to utilize these functions. This comes through the learning of SOCT knowledge.- E.W.King
